The last time you probably created a SMART goals was in high school, hereā€™s how they can help you with your job search.

If you are unfamiliar with the term SMART goal, it refers to a specific goal setting strategy to help individuals set objectives within a reasonable time frame. Itā€™s a great way to focus your efforts in a clear manner, be productive with your resources, and see a positive outcome. SMART goals are great tool for job seekers, but what does SMART actually mean?

SMART stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely, and is the framework for the way you set your goals.

When you set goals that are too broad and unrealistic, there is a higher chance of giving up in the long term. You need to specifically lay out what needs to happen to achieve that goal, rather than just stating it.

For example, if your main goal is to find a job and you know you need to start by revising your resume. Donā€™t just say ā€œrevise my resumeā€, you can be more specific and set a SMART goal by saying thisā€¦
