What to Post on LinkedIn So Recruiters Actually Come to You

If you're still submitting applications online and waiting by your inbox, hoping someone will call, you're playing a losing game. I've been in the career coaching world for 20 years. Before that, I was a VP in the staffing and recruiting industry. And I can tell you with complete certainty: the job search has changed, and LinkedIn is where the real action is happening right now.
The good news? You don't need a massive following or years on the platform to get a recruiter sliding into your DMs. You just need to understand how they're actually using LinkedIn—and then feed the beast accordingly.
How Recruiters Are Really Using LinkedIn
Recruiters aren't scrolling your feed, hoping to stumble upon you. They're using LinkedIn like a sophisticated database, powered by AI tools that search for specific keywords. Those keywords fall into two buckets: your industry and your hard skills.
And here's the kicker: The algorithm isn't just scanning your profile. It's watching your activity.
It looks for two things: relevancy and frequency. Are you showing up with the industry knowledge and skill sets a recruiter needs? And are you consistently contributing to the platform in a meaningful way?
If you're not posting, you're essentially invisible. And if you're just liking posts, dropping a "Congrats!" here and there, or mindlessly reposting content…that's not going to cut it anymore. LinkedIn's algorithm is smarter than that now. It wants to see that you're thoughtfully engaging and sharing real insight.
Hard Skills Over Everything
Before we talk about what to post, let's get clear on something that trips people up constantly: the difference between hard skills and soft skills.
Soft skills are things like "team player," "strong communicator," or "detail-oriented." Nice qualities? Sure. But recruiters aren't searching for them.
Hard skills are what get you found. Think project management, digital marketing, financial modeling, data analysis, supply chain optimization, etc. The skills that solve real problems, save companies money, and drive results. That is what recruiters are hunting for. If you can't clearly articulate how your skills will alleviate pain and create value for an organization, you're leaving opportunity on the table.
So the foundation of your LinkedIn content strategy is this: take your industry expertise plus your hard skills and package them in a way that's engaging and easy to consume.
The 5 Formats That Actually Work
I've tested these formats with thousands of clients, and they consistently get results. Here they are:
1. The Listicle — "4 things every project manager should do before a product launch." Simple, structured, and people love a good list.
2. The Contrarian Point of View — Challenge a commonly held belief in your industry. This positions you as a thinker, not just a practitioner.
3. Then vs. Now — "5 ways marketing has completely changed since 2020." This format showcases your industry awareness and evolution.
4. The Industry Observation — Share what you're noticing in your field. "Here's the biggest shift I'm seeing in supply chain management right now." Recruiters eat this up.
5. Story Time — Tell a professional story that illustrates your skills in action. "Let me tell you about the time I inherited a failing project and turned it around in 90 days." This one builds connection and credibility at the same time.
When you start using your expertise inside these five frameworks, something magical happens. You stop looking like someone desperately searching for a job and start looking like a go-to expert in your field. You become interesting. You become findable.
"But I Don't Know What to Post!"
I hear this all the time, and I get it. It feels overwhelming if you've never done it before. But let me be clear: this is not rocket science. It's just unfamiliar. And there's a big difference between hard and unfamiliar.
The truth is, you already have the knowledge. You just need the right framework to get it out of your head and onto the platform in a way that attracts the right attention.
That's exactly why I created the LinkedIn Recruiter Attraction Plan. I take your LinkedIn profile and the types of jobs you're targeting and build you a fully customized report of your next 20 LinkedIn posts. These aren’t just generic ideas; the report is specifically tailored to your industry, your skills, and your goals. No guesswork. No staring at a blank screen, wondering what to say.
Your first 20 posts will define how the algorithm sees you and, more importantly, how recruiters find you.
The Bottom Line
The job market is competitive right now, and waiting around for something to change isn't a strategy. But showing up consistently on LinkedIn with smart, skill-forward content? That's how you flip the script and have recruiters coming to you.
Check out the LinkedIn Recruiter Attraction Plan, and let's get you found.
