Don’t let a poorly written cover letter be the reason you don’t get an interview.

Some people think a cover letter is a waste of time because recruiters and hiring managers won’t even look at it. That’s not entirely true, you never know who will look at your cover letter. And if someone does, you want it to be good so you can impress them.

There’s a lot of information out there about what should and shouldn’t go into your cover letter. You’re definitely going to want to do some research before you start to revamp yours. To start, here’s what you should avoid doing in your cover letter.

What Would You Do? Below is a work story that isn't true, but it could be! Read this workplace dilemma and then share what YOU would do by clicking the link and submitting your advice. We'd love to hear your response, and may even feature it in the newsletter!

Alex is 60 years old and looks great for his age. He’s convinced he is being discriminated against in job interviews. He’s changed his resume so that his age doesn’t show. When he gets to interviews, he can tell they are surprised by his age. He tries hard in the interview to show how much value the company will get by hiring someone with his level of experience, but they always seem to end the conversation by saying, “We think you are overqualified and wouldn’t enjoy it here. You’d get bored quickly.” What can he do to offset that mindset?

What should he do? Click HERE to respond.

Taking notes is always better with fun paper and notebooks. Here are some of our favorites.

You want to get promoted!

If you are tired of your job and are feeling like you do the same thing over and over, day after day, then it might be time to ask for a promotion.

Ask for a promotion? Yup, that’s right. Why wait around for your boss to give you one when you could just ask. Even better, we will teach you how to show everyone you are ready to step up and take on new responsibilities. This is how you are going to be proactive!
