Your resume and LinkedIn profile should be treated as two separate resources for your job search. Yes, they are very similar and your resume should serve as a guide for your LinkedIn profile, but should ultimately be kept apart.

One of the main reasons we advise against uploading your resume to LinkedIn or any other social media platform, is for privacy reasons. When you make your resume public information, anyone can view and/or download it. This means your private contact information (phone number, email, address, etc.) is now available to anyone who comes across your profile.

Additionally, when you post your resume on your LinkedIn profile, you are practically screaming, “I NEED A JOB!” which might not be something you want to announce to the world. Recruiters and hiring managers are looking for top candidates to interview. These top candidates are people who are in demand and rarely “need” a job. By uploading your resume, you might take yourself out of the running as a top candidate.
