Beating Job Search Burnout: How I Helped Josh Find His Drive

The Signs of Burnout 😓

Josh came to me feeling completely demoralized about his job search. At first, he didn't even realize he was suffering from job search burnout - he just knew that applying for jobs filled him with dread and hopelessness. As we talked, I recognized the telltale signs:

  1. The mere mention of "job search" made Josh anxious and triggered negative emotions like stress, anger, and confusion. Those two words alone were enough to put him on edge.

  2. After applying for jobs online, Josh found himself making self-defeating comments like "I don't know why I bother, this will never work." The application process left him so drained that he needed to lie down, unable to bounce back.

  3. Josh had become so overwhelmed that he started skipping fields or not caring what he entered, thinking "Everything I've tried doesn't work, so it doesn't even matter anymore." He was practically self-sabotaging because the job search felt pointless.
